Theme: "Rooted in the Living Word"

This theme draws inspiration from passages such as Colossians 2:6-7, which says, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." The idea is to emphasize that the Word of God is the foundational source from which believers draw their strength, wisdom, and identity. It encourages a deep, lasting connection to the Word throughout the year, fostering spiritual growth and stability in the lives of believers.
I would like to bring to your attention to Vatican council II the constitution on 'Dei Verbum' which emphasises the following
Revelation and the Word of God: "Dei Verbum" emphasizes that God reveals Himself to humanity through His Word, both in Sacred Scripture and Tradition. Revelation is a communication of God's self-disclosure to humanity.
Inspiration of Scripture: The document affirms that the books of the Bible were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It stresses that everything asserted by the sacred authors should be considered to be asserted by the Holy Spirit.
Interpretation of Scripture: "Dei Verbum" encourages a balanced approach to interpreting Scripture, taking into account the literary forms, historical context, and the unity of the whole of Scripture. It calls for a harmonious relationship between the literal and spiritual senses of the Bible.
The Word of God in Liturgy and Preaching: "Dei Verbum" emphasizes the importance of the Word of God in the liturgical life of the Church. It encourages the reading of Scripture in the liturgy and the importance of homilies based on the Word.
Responsibility of the Faithful: The document underscores the responsibility of all believers to engage with and study the Word of God. It encourages laypeople to take an active role in reading, understanding, and sharing the Scriptures.

To promote a deeper engagement with the Word of God among the faithful. Here are some practical suggestions on how to do this:

Bible Study Groups: Establish regular Bible study groups within each parish. These groups can meet weekly or monthly to study and discuss specific books, themes, or passages from the Bible. Provide study guides and resources to facilitate discussions.

Liturgical Emphasis: Ensure that the liturgical celebrations within the parish place a significant emphasis on the Word of God. This includes selecting relevant Scripture readings, encouraging active listening during the readings, and delivering homilies that draw connections between the Scripture and daily life.

Scripture-Based Homilies: Encourage priests and deacons to base their homilies on the Sunday readings. Promote homilies that provide insight into the biblical text, its historical context, and its relevance to contemporary challenges.

Catechesis: Integrate Scripture into catechetical programs for children, youth, and adults. Design curricula that teach not only the content of the Bible but also its spiritual and moral teachings.

Bible Reading Plans: Provide parishioners with Bible reading plans that guide them through the entire Bible over the course of a year or other specific periods. Make these plans available in print and digitally.

Scripture in the Home: Encourage families to read and discuss Scripture together at home. Provide resources and suggestions for age-appropriate family Bible study and prayer.

Adult Faith Formation: Offer ongoing adult faith formation programs that delve deeper into the Bible's teachings, theology, and spirituality. Invite scholars or theologians to lead seminars or workshops.

Scripture-Based Retreats: Organize retreats that focus on deepening one's relationship with the Word of God. These retreats can provide opportunities for reflection, meditation, and personal encounters with Scripture.

Youth and Young Adult Engagement: Create youth and young adult groups that explore the Bible in a way that resonates with their age group. Use modern technology and interactive methods to engage them with Scripture.

Multilingual Resources: since our diocese is diverse, provide resources and translations of the Bible in multiple languages (Bengali/ Kokborok/ English) to ensure accessibility to a broader audience.

Biblical Art and Music: Incorporate biblical themes and art into the parish environment. Encourage the use of hymns and songs inspired by Scripture in worship.

Annual Scripture Focus: Designate a specific theme or book of the Bible to be the focus for the year, and base various parish activities and events around that theme. Quiz, bible act can be done.

Online Resources: Establish a parish website or social media presence dedicated to resources related to Scripture, including articles, videos, and recordings of homilies.

These are some of my suggestions and still many more can be added like BEC, Lectio Devina methods can be adopted.
